Does Miami Airport have Sleeping Pods?

Finding a comfortable place to rest is a top priority for most travelers at Miami International Airport (MIA), especially during long or overnight layovers, and unforeseen delays.

Sleeping pods at Miami Airport are not currently accessible. However, Hotelzo LLC, in partnership with Wait N’ Rest will soon be opening 39 sleep pods at 2 different locations within the terminal.

Miami Airport Sleeping Pods

Despite being one of the busiest airports in the U.S., Miami Airport has lagged in implementing the new airport sleep technologies in terms of sleeping pods, capsule hotels, or sleep cabins. However, as of 2024, a contract between Hotelzo LLC and the Miami-Dade Airport and Economic Development Committee has been approved for building the sleeping centers at the airport.

Hotelzo LLC, a company that was reclassified under Florida law but was originally registered in Delaware, has been assigned the contract to design and operate the sleeping pods at MIA. The contract is to build a total of 39 sleeping pods, 14 at Concourse D and 25 more along Concourse H.

Moreover, travelers will get the following benefits:

  • Concourse D: 1,933 square feet with 14 rooms.

  • Concourse H: 2, 53,300 square feet with extra restrooms and showers available.

NOTE: In contrast, Minute Suites sleeping pods are similar in size to the 3.15-square-meter pods produced by the company installing these pods.

Key Features of Sleeping Pods

The following amenities will be offered with these sleeping pods at MIA:

  • Luxurious rooms equipped with all the necessities for a restful night's sleep.

  • Some products/items will be provided to improve your sleep.

  • Various food items and beverages will be offered with these sleeping pods facility.

  • Extra showers and restrooms can be found at Concourse H.

Costing

Rafael Cutié, the director and CEO of the Miami-Dade Aviation Department, stated in a committee meeting that using these sleep pods would cost a passenger between $30 and $60 per hour. He also said, sleep pods would be available for use at Miami International Airport 24 hours a day, on an hourly booking basis. It varies based on the amenities and the time of day one plans to use them, but for about $55 per hour, it is comparable to other sleeping pod brands like Minute Suites.

Places to Sleep in Miami International Airport

There a plenty of seating options available at MIA Airport, most of these are chairs with armrests, making it impossible to lie down in them. If travelers want to rest, they also lie on the floor (if comfortable). However, there are extensive carpeted areas. Typically, travelers prefer to rest in Terminal D. In addition to providing warmth, extra clothing can serve as insulation on hard surfaces.

MIA has various places (not sleep pods, currently) where travelers can sleep or rest during their layover/waiting times, as follows:

  • There are some slender red couches in the International Arrivals area that are comfy enough for naps, right next to the well-known Besame Mucho flower artwork and baggage carousels 1-6.

  • In the North Terminal, there's a peaceful area with carpeting right outside the Auditorium.

  • There's a quiet time in a little carpeted alcove above Gate D15, close to the Admiral's Club.

  • Additionally, you can search for two linked padded benches close to TGIF Fridays, inside the yoga room in the baggage claim area of Terminal H, after Gate D34.

  • In 2019, one of the travelers said they enjoyed a nice nap at MIA. There isn't any carpet, so you should bring a blanket or towel to make your stay more comfortable.

  •  Level 4 reportedly has some red, thin, starfish-shaped couches.

Tips for Sleeping at Miami International Airport

All things considered, Miami International Airport can accommodate weary travelers quite well. There are amenities all across the airport to help passengers unwind while they wait, whether for a nap in a lounge or somewhere else entirely.

If you intend to spend a night at the airport, keep the following tips in mind:

  • Bring a travel blanket or pillow: While some lounges offer pillows and blankets, having your own will be more comfortable if you have a long layover and need rest.

  • Wear Headphones/Earplugs: Wear noise-cancelling headphones or bring earplugs. These will assist in blocking out some of the noise from airports, which can be excessively loud, allowing you to sleep more soundly.

  • Designated Spaces: Remain in the spaces designated for rest. Normally, these spaces are cozier and more serene than the main terminal seating.

Overall, you can sleep in Miami International Airport peacefully by following these tips without much hassle.

Can you stay overnight in MIA?

Yes, you can spend the night at Miami International Airport as it is open 24*7. The airport staff is always available to assist travelers who have unplanned overnight layovers, early departures, or late arrivals.

Please note that both Checkpoint 9 at the South Terminal and Checkpoint 2 in Concourse D at the North Terminal are open always open. Means, if you have to spend the night airside, these checkpoints become more helpful.

Airside amenities won't be available until these checkpoints reopen, so you'll need to stay landside if you arrive after all the other checkpoints have closed or if your flight isn't until the next day.

Is Miami Safe at Night?

Miami International Airport is generally safe at night. The airport employs security guards to walk around the terminals, ensuring the safety of all passengers. However, travelers should still take standard precautions, such as keeping their belongings secure and staying aware of their surroundings.

Those wandering off into the night from the airport should exercise caution. Miami is like any big city as there are safe and unsafe areas as well. It is advisable to stay in well-lit, crowded places and opt for reliable transportation services.

No matter what you need, MIA has everything you need to make sure you're comfortable and safe, whether you just want to spend the night or a few minutes. You can make the most of your time at the airport and arrive at your destination feeling rejuvenated with careful preparation and awareness of the available resources.
